terrestrial optics where critical optical figures, either plano
or with power, is as important as reflective performance. ETI utilizes
physical tooling where required to prevent the classical high-current
density run-out usually associated with an electro-deposited
surface.
Non-imaging
Reflectors
This section illustrates infrared reflecting function as
contrasted to the imaging optics above. Here the energy is ''bounced''
in a general direction and in some cases ''homginized'' at the end
of a light pipe for example.

Low
Emissivity Optics
This section describes products that rely on the consistently low
emissivity of Laser Gold plating to control thermal load.
Laser Applications
Laser Gold was named because of it near universal acceptance as
the most efficient and durable YAG Laser Pump Cavity coating. Epner
Technology both manufactures many OEM cavities and offers a refurbishment
service for lasers of all major manufacturers including the electroformed
Quantronix Head. ETI provides a solderable gold plating for diode
pumped heat sinks.

Integrating
Spheres
A unique process for altering the surface morphology of the substrate
(usually aluminum or brass) creates a Lambertian or Diffuse surface
that when coated with Laser Gold produces an extremely efficient
integrating sphere. Calibration Standards, traceable to NIST are
available.
The surface can be tailored to the particular
wavelength of interest with the surface roughness increasing
as one goes further out into the IR. Epner Technology will fabricate
a custom sphere or re-coat your existing one.
Sphere that is illustrated here is one of a few
thousand produced for an instrument used to measure the protein
of wheat and other grains.

Light
Pipes and Cold Shields
Both straight and curved, custom designed lightpipes with highly
polished and Laser Gold coated bores can be fabricated in diameters
from less than 1mm to 400mm. Lengths vary, up to 1 meter. Thin wall
Cold Shields use ETIs electroforming Laser Black and Laser
Golds performance to create a Cold Shield with ultra-low thermal
mass and an interior that, thanks to Laser Black, swallows
light. The OD is polished Laser Gold for extremely low emissivity.

IR Lightpipes or waveguides, as they
are sometimes called, have been fabricated by Epner Technology
to less than 1mm. diameter and 1 meter in length.

Medical
A variety of medically related products from radio opaque markers
on catheters to lightpipes used in tympanic (ear) thermometers are
made possible with Laser Gold.
Semi-Conductor
Reflectors
Epi Reactors Rapid Thermal Heaters and Memory Disk Heaters all have
been improved by re-plating with Laser Gold. ETI both fabricates
from scratch or re-plates your existing reflectors on the AMT, ASM,
Intevac and Moore Technology heater systems. A patented improvement
in the reflector increased shape for EPI reactors has produced the
ability to guarantee lamp life for one year with uniformity at the
wafer.
Automotive
ETI has produced Laser Gold plated reflector panels for some 37
auto paint drying tunnel ovens. An experiment at Fords Wixom
pilot line produced an incredible 36% increase in oven efficiency
when compared to the original stainless steel oven walls.
