Optical Grade Electroless Nickel

Epner Technology was a pioneer in the development of Electroless Nickel Phosphorous alloy for optical performance.

When done properly, that is, with the ratio of nickel to phosphorous carefully controlled and with a deposition rate kept intentionally very slow, a pit free, pore free amorphous deposit is achieved that yields an ideal surface for single-point diamond turning or optical lapping.

In the right hands, Epner’s optical grade electroless nickel has been post polished to a surface roughness of less than ten angstroms rms! Epner plates this alloy routinely to thicknesses that exceed .008” (>200 microns) on substrates of aluminum and beryllium.

Many of these substrates are subsequently coated with Laser Gold after polishing.
